How to Check Incoming Links for your Website

·

Search engines use your website’s backlink profile to judge it. And rightly so, because backlinks can tell a lot about a website, whether they are incoming or outbound.

Incoming backlinks are links from other websites to yours.

Outbound backlinks are the links from your website to other websites.

If spammy websites link to you, you want to be sure to disavow them.

So how do you check incoming links for your website?

Here is a list of easy-to-use, paid and free SEO tools to check inbound links –

Ahref Backlink link checker

Ahref claims to be the second most active crawler (the first being Google of course). It’s backlink data repository is refreshed every 15 minutes, so you can be pretty confident that your website’s link analysis is up-to-date.

Ahref is not a free backlinks checker, but it shows you a limited number of information about your backlinks for free.

If you do sign up for it’s paid plan though, there’s a lot you can do to analyse and improve your website’s backlink profile.

For example, you can –

  • Check inbound links for your website (number of domains and backlinks)
  • Check the quality of your backlink, using Ahref’s Domain Rating (DR) metric (assigned to each domain)
  • See the trend for your incoming backlinks (won or lost) over a period of time
  • View the link type (follow / no-follow) for inbound links
  • Check the estimated organic traffic for the domain and for the page that links back to your website. This is a feature that is unique to Ahref, because it shows it alongside your backlink data. This information can give you a better perspective of how useful your backlink is.

SEMRush incoming links checker

SEMRush is not a free tool either, but if you register for a free SEMRush account, you get 10 free requests to check for backlinks.

Ubersuggest Inbound link checker

Ubersuggest is a free backlink checker tool (it has paid plans as well), but if you are looking to optimize just a couple of websites, Ubersuggest’s free plan should be enough.
